The Nevada Supreme Court has announced that it has accepted its 80,000th case. The case is Patel v. Patel, a civil appeal from the Eighth Judicial District Family Court. Nevada was granted statehood on October 31, 1864. The Civil War was underway and would not end until April 9, 1865. Thus the Nevada flag bears the motto "Battle Born". At the time that the Nevada Law Blogs last treated the Nevada Court System, there was no Nevada Court of Appeals. Since then, things have changed. So how about an update regarding appeals in Nevada. Nevada Voters Approve Creation Of Nevada’s First Appellate Court
On November 4, 2014, Nevada voters approved Ballot Question No. 1 authorizing the creation of a Nevada Appellate Court. According to results published by the Secretary of State’s office, the question prevailed in Clark, Washoe and Carson City Counties but went down to defeat in all other counties. The margin of victory in the more populous counties was enough to put the measure over the top. The State Bar Of Nevada And Many Of Its Members Support The Creation Of A Court Of Appeals
In its most recent session, the Nevada Legislature unanimously passed a resolution calling for the creation of a new Nevada Court of Appeals. The voters will ultimately decide whether this new court will get off the ground. Nevada voters will find the proposed initiative on their November 2014 ballots. Nevada Desperately Needs A Court Of Appeals
In April 2012, Jeremiah Eskew-Shahan tried to give the family dog Onion a kiss good night. He stumbled onto the dog. Onion instinctively grabbed the little boy. Immediate intervention by the family was not enough to save Jermiah from the dog’s unprecedented response. Jeremiah died.
